Obverse description Youthful right-facing bust of Herakles, his head enveloped in a lion skin headdress with the scalp and open jaws of the beast framing his face, the paws knotted at the chest. The portrait displays finely rendered curling hair emerging beneath the pelt and bold facial features in the Hellenistic style. The flan is slightly irregular, as typical of the late posthumous series struck at Mesembria, with the design well-centered within the field.
