| Reverse description | Zeus Aëtophoros seated left on a low throne, his upper body nude and his lower body draped, holding an eagle with wings closed on his extended right hand and a long sceptre upright in his left. In the left field, an aplustre (naval trophy ornament) is depicted above a monogram placed below the throne. The reverse legend ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ runs along the right and upper fields, identifying the coin as issued in the name of Alexander the Great. The composition follows the canonical Alexandrine reverse type struck at numerous mints across the Hellenistic world. |
