| Obverse description | Youthful bare head of Herakles in right-facing profile, identifiable by the scalp of the Nemean lion worn as a headdress, with the beast's muzzle and claws rendered in high relief over the brow. The facial features are finely modelled in the Hellenistic tradition, with a strong aquiline nose, defined brow ridge, and parted lips, conveying an idealised heroic physiognomy widely understood as a veiled portrait of Alexander the Great. The lion skin falls naturally behind the neck, its knotted forepaws crossing at the throat. No legend or inscription appears on the obverse field. |
