Obverse description Youthful bare head of Herakles facing right, wearing the Nemean lion's scalp headdress knotted at the throat, the mane rendered in deeply cut, flowing locks cascading behind the ear. The portrait is executed in high relief with fine naturalistic modelling of the facial features, displaying the characteristic idealized Lysippan type adopted as the standard effigy for the Alexandrine coinage. The flat, unadorned field surrounds the effigy to the coin's edge.
