Obverse description Facing right, the heroized effigy of Herakles rendered in high relief, wearing the Nemean lion scalp headdress whose paws are knotted at the throat; the facial features bear the idealized portrait traits conventionally associated with Alexander III the Great. The finely modeled curls of hair emerge from beneath the lion skin, and the muscular neck and chin are rendered with considerable sculptural precision characteristic of the Hellenistic die-cutting tradition.

Reverse description Zeus Aëtophoros enthroned in three-quarter left view upon an ornate throne, his nude upper body draped at the waist and legs; his outstretched right hand supports a perched eagle, while his left hand rests upon a tall scepter. In the left field, below the eagle, appears a small figure of Harpokrates (or a child figure) accompanied by what appears to be a torch symbol; additional control symbols are visible in the lower left field. The vertical Greek legend ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ runs along the right field.
