| Reverse description | Zeus Aëtophoros enthroned left upon a low throne, his upper body nude and draped at the waist, holding an eagle with spread wings on his extended right hand and a long sceptre upright in his left. In the left field, a lion-skin is draped over a club. The control mark 'X' appears below the throne. The Greek legend ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ runs along the right and upper fields, identifying the coin as struck in the name of King Alexander. The composition follows the canonical reverse type established under Alexander III of Macedon and continued extensively by his successors. |
