Obverse description Slow quadriga advancing to the right, driven by a charioteer holding a kentron and reins; the horses are rendered in careful detail characteristic of early Syracusan coinage. Above the quadriga, Nike flies right, extending a wreath to crown the victorious horses. The composition reflects the grand Deinomenid celebration of chariot victories at the Panhellenic games. The exergue and field are plain, with no additional inscription on this side.
