Additional information

Heliokles II ruled a contracting Baktrian kingdom under mounting pressure from nomadic incursions — likely the Yuezhi — that were systematically dismantling Greek political control east of the Oxus. His coinage is scarce enough that scholarly debate over his precise dynastic position persisted well into the late twentieth century, with some numismatists placing him as a son of Eucratides I and others questioning that lineage entirely. The Bopearachchi sequence assigns him a late position in the Baktrian series, implying a reign confined to whatever territory remained defensible in those final decades before Greek rule in the region effectively ceased.
