Reverse description Head of Arethusa facing right in high relief, wearing a helmet decorated with a beaded crest, her elaborately rendered hair falling in fine beaded tresses beneath the helmet and adorned with a necklace of pendants at her neck. The head is rendered in the severe archaic style with a strong profile, almond-shaped eye, and sharply defined features. The ethnic legend ΣΥΡΑΚΟΣΙΟΝ is disposed in four segments around the central device, reading ΣVR – A[koppa] – OΣI – ON, with the letters separated by the surrounding space of the flat field.
