The entire central device is encircled by an oak wreath with acorns, a traditional Macedonian symbol of royal and civic identity. To the left and right of the wreath, thunderbolts are depicted. The composition is bold and legible, consistent with the coinage standardized under Roman administrative reorganization of Macedonia into four merides after 167 BC. |
