| Obverse description | Griffin seated to left in the archaic style, with large spread wings rendered in finely striated relief, the right forepaw raised. The creature's aquiline beak is open and the body is rendered with bold, plastic modelling characteristic of the early Classical period. To the right in the field stands a cock facing right, serving as an ethnic symbol or magistrate's badge. A beaded border encircles the design. The partial inscription ΔΕΟ appears in the field, representing an abbreviated magistrate's name. |
