Obverse description Nike, winged and in flowing robes, stands left upon the prow of a galley, blowing a long salpinx (war trumpet) with her right hand and holding a stylis (steering oar) in her left; the galley prow is rendered in fine detail below, evoking the naval victory at Salamis. The composition is dynamic and celebratory in character, reflecting the Hellenistic artistic conventions of the early third century BC.
