Obverse description Diademed head of Demetrius I Poliorcetes facing right, rendered in fine Hellenistic style with idealized, youthful features and elaborately wavy hair swept back from the forehead. The royal diadem is tied around the head with the ends falling behind the neck. The portrait is executed with exceptional sculptural depth and naturalism, characteristic of the finest court die-cutters of the early third century BC. The field is plain, with no legend, the entire composition focused on the commanding royal effigy.
