Obverse description Facing lion scalp rendered in high relief, with bold plastic features characteristic of the Samian coinage of the early fourth century BC. The mane radiates symmetrically outward from the central facial axis, rendered in fine parallel striations that fill the entire coin field. The nose, brow, and muzzle are deeply modelled, conveying a powerful leonine frontality. The treatment reflects a mature Archaic-to-Classical transitional style with strong artistic ambition.
