Obverse description Right-facing head of the deified Heracles in three-quarter view, wearing the Nemean lion-skin headdress with the scalp tied beneath the chin, rendered in fine high relief. The musculature and mane of the lion skin are rendered with naturalistic detail characteristic of the post-Alexander Macedonian die-cutting tradition. The facial features display the idealized portrait style associated with Alexander III, whose heroic persona is invoked through the Heraclean iconography. The field is plain with no legend, and the flan is slightly irregular as typical of hammered coinage of this period.
