Obverse description Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Caracalla (Marcus Aurelius Antoninus) facing right, rendered with characteristic short curly beard and strongly modelled facial features in the Severan style. A laurel wreath crowns the emperor's head, with the paludamentum visible at the truncation of the shoulder. The encircling legend runs along the coin's periphery in Greek script. The portrait is executed with considerable artistic detail, emphasizing the emperor's powerful and authoritative countenance.
