| Reverse description | Demeter seated left upon a cista mystica, depicted in a composed, hieratic posture. In her extended right hand she holds stalks of grain ears, emblematic of her divine dominion over agriculture and fertility, while her left hand grasps a long lotus-tipped sceptre. The ethnic ΠΑΡΙΩΝ appears in the left field identifying the issuing city of Paros, and the magistrate's name ΑΡΙΣΤΟΔΗΜ is inscribed above the figure, serving as a control identifier for the issue. The composition follows the standard Hellenistic civic tetradrachm tradition of Paros. |
