Obverse description Diademed and draped bust of Antiochos IX Kyzikenos facing right, rendered in fine Hellenistic style with naturalistic, flowing hair arranged in ringlets framing the face and falling behind the ear in characteristic late Seleucid fashion. The portrait exhibits a youthful, idealised countenance with prominent features and a lightly defined beard at the chin. The royal diadem is tied at the back with ribbons visible behind the neck. The field is plain, with no surrounding legend on the obverse. The portraiture reflects the high artistic standard of the Antioch mint workshop.
