| Reverse description | Athena Alkidemos (Protectress of the People) strides vigorously to the left in a dynamic martial pose, her left arm extended and bearing a round hoplon shield, while her right arm is raised and brandishing a thunderbolt. She wears a crested Attic helmet and a short peplos, rendered with energetic drapery typical of late Classical and early Hellenistic sculptural influence. To the left of the goddess stands a facing Macedonian helmet in the field, serving as a secondary symbol. The primary legend ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΑΝΤΙΓΟΝΟΥ (of King Antigonus) is inscribed in two lines flanking the figure, with the mintmark or control mark KT appearing to the right. The reverse type, derived from a cult image at Pella, became the canonical reverse design of Antigonus II Gonatas's silver coinage. |
