| Obverse description | Central to the design, the horned head of Pan faces left, depicted wearing a goat skin about his neck and accompanied by a lagobolon (hare-stick) behind; the figure is rendered in fine Hellenistic style with naturalistic detail. The entire composition of Pan's head is set within the boss of a large Macedonian shield, whose broad rim is adorned with an alternating pattern of stars and crescents in relief, a characteristic emblem of Antigonid royal iconography. The shield motif serves simultaneously as a border and as a statement of military and dynastic authority. |
