Obverse description Griffin springing to the left in high relief, depicted in the characteristic Abderite style with powerful leonine hindquarters, eagle's forelegs raised, and large, finely engraved swept wings extended upward. The mythical creature's beak is open and the curling serpentine tail is visible at the right. The design occupies the full field of the flan, rendered with considerable sculptural depth and artistic sophistication typical of late fifth-century Thracian coinage.

Reverse description Dionysus, the divine patron of Abdera, seated in three-quarter view upon a stag advancing to the left, holding a cantharus in his outstretched right hand and a leafy branch in his left. The composition is contained within a linear square border, itself set within a deep incuse square formed by the reverse die punch. The Greek legend ΑΝΑΞΙΔΙΚΟΣ, identifying the magistrate responsible for the issue, is inscribed within the incuse field, following the standard Abderite convention of naming the civic magistrate on the reverse.
