Obverse description Griffin seated to left in three-quarter perspective, its right forepaw raised and extended forward, powerful folded wings rendered with finely engraved feather striations sweeping upward to the right. The creature's leonine body and haunches are modelled in high relief, with a serpentine tail curling beneath. An ivy leaf appears to the left in the field. The whole design is enclosed within a beaded border, characteristic of the fine Abderite engraving tradition of the late fifth century BC.

Reverse description Hermes depicted standing to right in the field, clad in chlamys and wearing his characteristic petasos (broad-brimmed traveller's hat), holding the caduceus upright in his right hand. The figure is rendered in the severe style of late fifth-century Greek coinage. The type is set within a linear inner square, itself contained within a deep incuse square, a hallmark of Abderite tetradrachm coinage. The magistrate's name ΑΝΑΞΙΔΙΚΟΣ is inscribed within the incuse square, identifying this as an issue under the eponymous magistrate Anaxidikos.
