| Obverse description | Bare head of a young male facing right, rendered in fine archaic-to-early classical style with naturalistic modelling of the features. The hair is bound with a plain taenia, rendered in careful wavy locks falling behind the ear and along the neck. The portrait fills the flan boldly, with no surrounding legend or border, in a style consistent with early Macedonian royal coinage. |

Amyntas II — not to be confused with the more prominent Amyntas III — ruled Macedonia only briefly in the early 4th century BC, his tenure interrupted by the Illyrian invasion that temporarily drove the Macedonian royal house from power. Coins attributable to this king remain genuinely scarce, and scholarly attribution has historically been contested, with some references assigning these pieces to Amyntas III's early reign instead.
