Obverse description Head of Herakles facing right, wearing the Nemean lion scalp headdress, the skin knotted at the throat with paws visible at the shoulder; the facial features are rendered in the idealized Lysippan style associated with portraits of Alexander III. The hair is depicted in tightly wound curls beneath the lion scalp. The effigy is set within a plain inner field bordered by a beaded dotted circle, and the flan is irregularly shaped, characteristic of hammered coinage of this period.
