Obverse description Youthful head of Herakles facing right, enveloped in the scalp of the Nemean lion, the beast's muzzle framing the hero's forehead and the paws knotted at the neck. The bold, high-relief portrait displays finely rendered facial features with a strong jaw, prominent brow, and slightly parted lips, characteristic of the refined die-cutting associated with the Tarsos mint. The lion skin is rendered with naturalistically modeled folds, conveying both the heroic identity of the subject and the idealized portrait tradition linking Alexander III to his divine ancestor.
