| Obverse description | Right-facing heroic head of Herakles in three-quarter relief, wearing the Nemean lion skin headdress, with the scalp drawn over the crown and the lion's paws knotted at the throat. The facial features are rendered in fine Hellenistic style, with deeply modelled curling locks visible beneath the pelt. A dotted border frames the design field. The portrait is conventionally understood as a veiled representation of Alexander III himself in the guise of his divine ancestor. |

| Reverse description | Zeus Aëtophoros enthroned in left-facing profile upon a high-backed throne, his torso nude and his lower body draped in himation. In his outstretched right hand he holds an eagle facing left, and in his left hand he grasps a tall sceptre. A small eagle is perched on the throne arm to the left. Mint control symbols appear in the left field and beneath the throne; the letter M is visible in the exergue, serving as a Babylon mint mark. The royal legend ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ runs downward along the right field within a dotted border. |
