Obverse description Right-facing bust of the youthful, beardless Heracles portrayed with idealized heroic features, his head enveloped in the scalp of the Nemean lion, the beast's knotted forepaws visible at the neck. The rendering is bold and high-relief, characteristic of the Babylonian workshop, with finely detailed curling hair emerging beneath the leonine headdress. The field is plain, and the design is contained within a dotted border. The portrait is widely understood as an idealized effigy of Alexander III himself in the guise of his divine ancestor.
