Obverse description Youthful male head in right profile, identified as the hero Herakles, enveloped in the scalp of the Nemean lion, the beast's muzzle framing the forehead and the paws knotted at the throat. The finely modelled facial features display large almond-shaped eyes, a straight nose, and slightly parted lips rendered in the vigorous Lysippan-influenced style characteristic of early Amphipolis coinage. The field is plain, with no legend or secondary devices, the entire composition focused on the heroic portrait. The high-relief die work captures the texture of the lion skin with crisp, naturalistic detail.
