Abdagases I ruled as a vassal king under the Indo-Parthian Gondopharid dynasty, controlling Arachosia — roughly modern Kandahar and its surrounds — during one of the more turbulent transitions of regional power in the eastern Iranian world. His coinage was struck in billon rather than silver, reflecting the degraded monetary conditions that increasingly characterized Indo-Parthian issues as Kushan pressure from the north began compressing their territorial and economic base.
The multiple reference numbers across Mitchiner and ISCH point to recognized die groupings within this type, not simply cataloging redundancy.
