Obverse description Dionysus, depicted as an elderly bearded figure, reclines leftward upon the back of a walking mule, his head adorned with an ivy wreath and his body draped in a himation. In his extended right hand he holds a cantharus, while his left hand rests upon the mule's flank. The composition is rendered in a lively Archaic-to-Early Classical style, with the god's relaxed posture conveying divine ease and bacchic contentment. The mule advances to the left across a plain field, with no exergual line.
