Reverse description Facing bust of the nymph Arethousa turned to right, her hair bound with a beaded tainia, adorned with a single-pendant earring and a necklace. The ethnic legend ΣΥΡΑΚΟΣΙΟΝ is arranged in segments around the central portrait, interspersed with four dolphins swimming in the surrounding field. The sensitively modelled features and delicate rendering of the jewelry reflect the refined early Classical style associated with Syracusan coinage of the 460s BC.
