| Obverse description | Head of the hero Diomedes in three-quarter right profile, wearing a Corinthian helmet pushed back on his head, with elaborate curling hair visible beneath the helmet's brow guard. The facial features are rendered in fine Classical style with a well-defined jawline and eye. The flan is irregularly shaped, characteristic of hand-struck Peloponnesian coinage of the mid-fourth century BC. |

| Reverse description | The shield of Diomedes depicted face-on as a large Boeotian-style round shield, its characteristic side cutouts clearly visible, with an eight-pointed star or rosette device at the centre of the field. The ethnic legend ARΓEI-ON is inscribed around the periphery of the shield in Greek characters, identifying the coin as an issue of the Argives. The composition is bold and schematic, typical of Argive civic coinage of this period. |
