| Obverse description | Ithyphallic donkey advancing to right, its erect phallus prominently rendered; a crow perches on the animal's rump and pecks at its tail. A small subsidiary device, identified as either an acorn or a bunch of grapes, appears in the lower field beneath the animal. The composition is rendered in a bold, archaic Greek style characteristic of the late sixth to early fifth century BC Chalcidian coinage. A retrograde Greek legend MIN appears in the field, serving as an abbreviated ethnic for the mint city of Mende. |
