| Reverse description | A grapevine laden with five bunches of grapes is depicted within a linear inner square, the vine rendered with careful detail as the principal civic emblem of Mende, a city renowned in antiquity for its wine production. The ethnic inscription ΜΕΝΔΑΙΟΝ is disposed around the periphery of the central square. The entire design is enclosed within a recessed incuse square, a hallmark of early northern Greek coinage technique. The bold, deeply cut incuse field imparts a striking sculptural contrast to the raised vine motif at center. |
