| Obverse description | Artemis, depicted in profile facing left, stands upright within a biga — actually a quadriga — holding the reins as the horses charge leftward across the field. Apollo stands beside her, also facing left, with bow drawn in the act of release. The ethnic legend ΣΕΛΙΝΟΤΙΟΝ is arranged above the figural group, inscribed in archaic Greek characters. The composition reflects the vigorous Sicilian die-cutting tradition of the late Archaic and early Classical periods, with finely detailed drapery and dynamic equine rendering characteristic of the Selinuntine workshop. |
