| Reverse description | A goat, rendered with careful naturalistic detail, stands to the right on rocky, uneven ground, its head lowered and turned to nibble at the branches of a willow tree rising at the right of the field. From one of the branches hangs a pilos (conical felt cap), an attribute associated with Hermes and emblematic of the city of Ainos. The ethnic inscription AI-NI-ON appears in the field, identifying the issuing city. The composition is enclosed within a shallow incuse square typical of Thraco-Macedonian coinage of this period. |
