| Obverse description | Helmeted head of Athena in right profile, rendered in the archaic style with a large, almond-shaped eye shown frontally. The goddess wears a round earring and an Attic helmet adorned with a prominent crest; the bowl of the helmet is decorated with a small incised spiral volute. The treatment of the hair, with parallel wavy locks emerging beneath the helmet above the forehead and along the neck, is characteristic of the early classical Athenian coinage. |

| Reverse description | An owl stands in right profile with head turned to face the viewer, the feathers of the body rendered in fine detail with incised lines. To the upper left, an olive sprig with berries is depicted, symbolic of Athena and the city of Athens. The ethnic abbreviation ΑΘΕ (Athenion, for Athenians) appears to the right of the owl. The entire design is set within a deep incuse square, a hallmark of early Athenian coinage of this period. |
