| Obverse description | Facing head of Apollo, rendered in the severe style with finely engraved features, inclined very slightly to the left. A bow is depicted in the left field and a lyre in the right field, both attributes of the deity. The inscription AΠΟΛΛΩΝ appears in small letters below the bust, while the engraver's signature XOIPIΩN is inscribed on the left above the bow. The composition exemplifies the masterful die-cutting associated with the great Sicilian engravers of the late fifth century BC. |

| Reverse description | A charioteer clad in a long chiton drives a galloping quadriga to the right, preparing to round an Ionic column visible in the background, a motif evoking the Greek chariot-race festival. Nike flies left above the scene, extending a wreath to crown the victorious charioteer. The ethnic legend KATANAIΩN occupies the upper field. In the exergue, a crayfish (astakos) serves as the civic badge of Katane. The composition is rendered with great dynamism and technical precision characteristic of the finest Sicilian coinage of the period. |
