Obverse description Facing right, the youthful head of Dionysos in three-quarter right profile, wreathed with ivy and a corymbus (cluster of berries), his abundant curling hair falling in thick tresses about his neck and shoulders. The rendering is characteristically Hellenistic in style, with fleshy, idealized facial features and a sensuous expression. No legend appears on the obverse field, the entire composition being devoted to the large, commanding effigy of the god.
