Obverse description Facing head of Helios rendered in three-quarter view turned slightly to the right, depicted in the characteristic Rhodian style with radiate hair fanning outward in flowing, tightly-arrayed waves. The face displays the idealized Hellenistic treatment of the solar deity, with softly modeled features and a commanding frontal presence. The treatment of the hair as radiating sun rays is a hallmark of Rhodian coinage of this period, conveying the divine light of the sun god. No inscription or legend accompanies the obverse design.
