Reverse description A fully open rose with petals spread, seen from above, occupies the centre of a square incuse punch; a rose bud on a stem extends to the left of the main bloom. The ethnic legend ΡΟΔΙΟΝ is inscribed above the rose in Greek characters. Below the rose appears the magistrate's control letter Φ, while a bunch of grapes is placed in the right field, serving as an additional control symbol. The entire design is contained within a recessed square incuse, a hallmark of early Rhodian coinage struck at the time of the synoikismos of 408 BC.
