| Reverse description | A linear incuse square encloses a stylized grapevine, depicted with spreading leaves, curling tendrils, and four pendant bunches of grapes. The vine motif serves as a direct allusion to Mende's celebrated wine-producing region and its connection to the cult of Dionysos. The inscription ΜΕΝΔΑΙΟΝ is disposed within or around the incuse square, identifying the issuing city. The incuse technique, characteristic of early Macedonian silver coinage, imparts a deeply recessed, geometric quality to the reverse design. The overall composition is bold and well-centered within the square punch. |
