Obverse description Facing head of Aphrodite Euploia rendered in three-quarter view to the left, her hair bound in a sphendone, adorned with an earring and necklace in fine Knidian artistic style. The goddess's features are modelled with considerable plasticity, reflecting the influence of the Praxitelean sculptural tradition associated with Knidos. A ship's prow appears behind the head to the left, referencing Aphrodite's role as protectress of mariners. The letters K and N appear divided on either side of the neck, serving as the civic abbreviation for Knidos.
