Tenedos sat at the entrance to the Hellespont, and whatever political autonomy it projected through its coinage was largely performative by this period — the island had been under shifting Hellenistic and Roman influence for generations. These late tetradrachms belong to a final burst of civic coinage before the island faded from any meaningful monetary role in the Aegean. The HGC 6, 390 classification encompasses considerable die variation, and specimens attributable to Callataÿ's unpublished corpus remain difficult to place without die-study comparison.
