| Obverse description | Facing right, the youthful head of Hermes is rendered in fine archaic-transitional style, his features modelled with smooth, high-relief planes characteristic of early Classical Greek coinage. The god wears a broad-brimmed petasus, its brim decorated along the edge with a prominent row of pellets, securing his hair which falls in carefully engraved locks behind the ear. The eye is rendered in the slightly almond-shaped convention transitional between the archaic and early Classical periods, and the lips carry a faint hint of the archaic smile. No legend appears in the field. |
