| Obverse description | A biga (two-horse chariot) driven to the right by a charioteer rendered in flowing drapery, holding the reins; Nike flies above and crowns the charioteer with a wreath. The horses are depicted in vigorous motion above a ground line, beneath which a dolphin is visible in the exergue. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border, reflecting the refined Sicilian die-cutting tradition of the late fifth century BC. |
