| Reverse description | Incuse square field bordered by a prominent row of raised pellets on all four sides, executed in the incuse technique characteristic of early Greek coinage of the western colonies. Within the sunken square, an eagle's head is depicted facing left in profile, rendered with careful attention to the hooked beak and rounded cranium. The eagle grips a coiled serpent in its beak, with the body of the serpent visible below the head in the lower field. Feather striations are indicated to the right of the eagle's neck. The type is executed in shallow relief within the incuse, a hallmark of the earliest Cyrenaican tetradrachm series. |
