Reverse description An eagle with wings spread stands to the left atop a hare, which it seizes in its talons; the predatory scene is rendered with exceptional naturalistic detail, the eagle's feathers carefully incised and its powerful body conveying dominance. A small crab, civic emblem of Akragas, appears in the lower field to the left. The retrograde ethnic legend ΑΚΡΑΓΑΝΤΟΣ is inscribed around the field. The composition occupies nearly the full flan and reflects the High Classical style characteristic of the final issues of Akragas before the Carthaginian sack of 406 BC.
