Obverse description Dionysos, bearded and draped in a himation, reclines to left atop the back of a donkey walking to right, his right hand extended holding a kantharos; a crow perches on branches in the right field before the donkey. The composition is rendered in a bold archaic-classical style characteristic of northern Aegean coinage, with the divine figure depicted in relaxed, symposiastic repose. The incuse technique lends the design a sculptural depth, with fine detail preserved in the drapery folds and the naturalistic treatment of the animal.
