| Obverse description | Fast quadriga driven to the right by Nike, who holds the kentron and reins; an eagle in flight to the right appears above the horses. The ethnic legend ΓΕΛΩΙΩΝ is inscribed in the exergue, accompanied by a large pellet. The composition exemplifies the high Classical Sicilian die-engraving tradition, with powerfully rendered horses and a fluid, dynamic charioteer figure. |
